Gem review

Verdict. Gem is the best talent CRM for in-house sourcing teams: sequences, talent pools, pipeline analytics and now its own ATS, all designed around how recruiters actually work in a browser.

Best for: sourcing teams that need a CRM and outreach layer on top of their ATS.

Gem started as an outreach and CRM layer on top of Greenhouse and Lever and grew into a full platform, including an ATS of its own. Sourcers use its extension to add candidates from the web, enrol them in multi-step email sequences, and track response and conversion rates by sourcer, source and role.

Its analytics are the best in the CRM category for answering 'why are we not hiring fast enough'. The trade-off is cost: Gem is sold on annual contracts sized for teams of several recruiters.

Pros and cons

Best-in-class sequencing and talent-pool management
Pipeline and sourcer analytics
Increasingly complete platform with its own ATS and scheduling
Priced for larger teams
Still requires humans to do the searching
Overlaps heavily with features in Ashby and Greenhouse

Where Gem ranks

Head-to-head

  • Noon vs Gem: Noon wins for lean teams because it does the sourcing; Gem wins for large in-house sourcing teams that already have sourcers and want the best analytics on their outreach.
